How do they work?
An air source heat pump extracts heat from the outside air in the same way that a fridge extracts heat from inside. Heat can be taken from the air at temperatures as low as -20°C. This can then be used to heat homes via radiators or Underfloor Heating systems and satisfy hot water demands. Heat pumps do use electricity to run, but with efficiencies of up to 500% this means for every 1 part of electricity it uses, it produces up to 5 units of heat energy. To support your carbon neutral aspirations, pairing a heat pump with solar panels which creates free electricity from the sun becomes a very attractive cost effective renewable solution.
